Torghatten, Norway
The mountain with a hole through it
The tunnel is about 165 metres long and you can walk through it. A 2009 geology study points to ice, not waves.
What is said in this reel
This Norwegian mountain had a hole straight through it. It's about 165 meters long, and you can walk through it. It looks like a sea cave, but a geology study points to ice. Twenty thousand years ago, a kilometer of ice covered this coast. Meltwater under the glacier and ice sliding over the rock likely cut the first passage. At its highest, the sea stayed about 15 meters below the tunnel floor. So the sea alone can't explain it. Local legend says a troll chased a girl and shot an arrow at her. The king threw his hat into the arrow's path, and the hat turned to stone. That mountain is Torghatten. A hat or a glacier. Either way, there's a hole in the mountain.
